Frequently Asked Questions

The Great Outdudes is a place for men to get out, try something new, meet good people, and make the most of wherever life takes them. We create adventures, experiences and trips with the outdoors at heart but you don't have to be an outdoorsman to be an Outdude. We're about good times, new experiences, and making connections along the way.

Men 21 years of age and older and from all stages of life are welcome. You don't need to fit a certain mold, have a certain level of experience, or be a particular "type" of guy. Whether you're just getting started or you've been exploring the outdoors your whole life, there's a place for you here.

Not at all. You don't have to be an experienced hiker, camper, fisherman, athlete, or outdoorsman. Some of our adventures may be challenging, while others are simply about learning something new and having a good time. We'll tell you what to expect so you can find experiences that are right for you.

Absolutely. In fact, we'd encourage it. You don't need to know anyone to join an adventure. Great Outdudes is about bringing people together, and you may show up knowing nobody and leave having made a few new friends.

A little bit of everything. Hiking, camping, fishing, paddling, cooking, travel, classes, unique experiences and more. The outdoors are at the heart of what we do, but an Outdudes experience doesn't always have to take place outside. If it's a good opportunity to get out, disconnect, connect and have some fun, we're interested.

That depends on what we're up to. Each event will provide the details you need, including what to bring, what to wear, what's provided, where to meet and anything else you should know. Our goal is to take the guesswork out of the planning so you can focus on enjoying your time.

It depends on the experience. Some adventures may be free or very inexpensive, while others - particularly trips and experiences that include lodging, meals, equipment, etc. - will have a cost. Every event will clearly explain what's included before you sign up.

Sometimes. It depends on the adventure. When equipment is provided, we'll let you know. If you need to bring your own gear, we'll tell you exactly what you'll need ahead of time.

For some adventures, Great Outdudes will offer gear or equipment rentals, giving you the opportunity to try something new without having to invest in equipment of your own. Rental availability and pricing will be provided with the event details.

If you're trying something for the first time, our goal is to make it as easy as possible to get what you need, give it a try, and have a great experience.

Mother Nature gets a vote. For outdoor adventures, we'll keep an eye on the forecast and make decisions based on safety and the overall experience. If weather requires us to change, postpone or cancel an event, we'll communicate those details with everyone who has signed up.

Absolutely! Some of the best ideas can come from the Dudes themselves. If there's something you've always wanted to try, somewhere you've always wanted to go, or an experience you think the group would enjoy, let us know. You bring the idea and we'll see what we can do with it!

Just find an adventure or experience you'd like to join and follow the sign-up instructions on the event page. Depending on the event, you'll provide some basic information and, if necessary, payment. Once you're signed up, we'll provide the details you need to know before the adventure begins.

Being an Outdude doesn't require a membership card, a certain skill level or a love of sleeping in a tent. It's about being willing to get out, try something new, meet good people and make the most of the time you've got.

Get Out. Disconnect. Connect.

That's what being an Outdude is all about.

The Great Outdudes currently serves Northern Illinois & Southern Wisconsin. While this is our general "home base" area, keep a look out for adventures and experiences throughout the entire Midwest!
